Free and open source

7TV, BTTV and FFZ emotes for Twitch on Android

Twitch for Android, now with the emotes chat actually uses.

PurpleTV ReVive is a free, open-source mod for the official Twitch app. It brings 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes to mobile chat, plus channel points that claim themselves, pronouns, offline translation, video filters and a long list of fixes Twitch never got around to.

No more reading KEKW as four sad letters. Chat is a picture book again.

  • Open source, Apache 2.0
  • Downloads straight from GitHub
  • No extra account to make

On by default

Channel points that claim themselves

Every bonus chest gets claimed for you while you watch, whether the chest is on screen or not. Portrait, landscape, chat closed, deep in a chat argument: the points keep piling up for your next prediction.

  • Checks for a chest every 30 seconds
  • Sends the same claim as tapping the chest
  • One switch turns it off

Everything mobile chat was missing

PurpleTV ReVive runs inside the official Twitch app, so there is nothing new to learn. Every feature has its own switch under Settings, PurpleTV.

Emotes, finally

7TV, BTTV and FFZ emotes

Global and channel emotes render right in chat, animated ones included. They also get their own sections in Twitch's emote picker.

Emote autocomplete

Type a few letters of any emote and pick it from a list above the chat box. No colon, no scrolling through 600 emotes like it's 2016.

Favorites bar

Long-press any emote to add it to the bar. Sort favorites into folders or tabs, and keep a different set for each streamer.

Emote details and stats

Tap an emote to see it big, who uploaded it, and who has been spamming it the most since you joined.

Chat, but better

Badges and pronouns

7TV, FFZ, BTTV, Chatterino, DankChat, Chatsen and Homies badges, plus pronoun tags from pronouns.alejo.io.

Offline chat translation

Messages in other languages get a translation underneath, made on your phone after a one-time download. Chat never leaves your device.

Deleted messages

See what a deleted message said, struck through or grayed out. Works as a regular viewer, not just as a mod.

Timestamps with seconds

Nine formats, seconds included. Twitch can't do that. We checked.

Highlights and blacklist

Tint a row when it mentions a word or comes from someone, and make the messages you never want to see vanish without a gap.

Mod logs

In channels you moderate, a line in chat says who timed out or banned whom, and why.

The player, upgraded

40+ video filters

Fix a washed-out or too-dark stream as it plays, or go full VHS glitch. Overlays, blend modes and presets included.

Audio filters

Volume boost, auto volume, a compressor and limiter, voice clarity and a 16-band equalizer. For the streamer whose mic peaks every five minutes.

Live captions

Captions on live streams: the stream's own, or speech to text made on your phone in seven languages. Translated too, if you like.

Ad volume

Turn ads down to as little as 5% of their volume. They still play in full and still pay the streamer. Your ears just get a break.

Sleep timer

Closes Twitch, or just pauses the stream, after 15 minutes, 2 hours or any time you pick. Built for the 3 a.m. "one more stream".

Clip and save

One button clips the last moments of a live stream and saves the video to your phone. It's a normal Twitch clip, so the channel gets it too.

Small things that add up

Player stats

Quality, bitrate, frame rate, how far behind live you are and dropped frames, right over the video.

Settings sync

The same setup on every device, through one small file in your own Google Drive. No new account needed.

Hide the clutter

Leaderboards, the hype train banner, Stories, the Bits button and more, one switch each.

Updates built in

PurpleTV tells you when a new version is out, says what changed, and installs it inside the app.

Also in the box
  • Refresh button for frozen streams
  • VOD skip lengths
  • Swipe for brightness and volume
  • Push notifications on the patched app
  • Raid cards

  • Chat font size and width

Dynamic light filters

Dark streams, rescued from the void

On OLED phones the darkest shades often show up as pure black, so a dim horror game or a moody late-night stream turns into a black rectangle with a voice. The dynamic light filters check the stream a few times a second and lift dark scenes as they happen, then ease off when it gets bright again.

Now you can finally see what jumpscared them.

  • Dynamic exposureOpens up dark scenes and pulls back washed-out ones, eased in so it never flickers.
  • Dynamic gammaLifts murky shadows and midtones while pure black and white stay put.
  • Dynamic contrastStretches flat, foggy scenes, and backs off when one already has plenty of punch.
  • Dynamic black pointPulls gray, washed-out blacks back down to real black, and lifts crushed ones a touch.

Mix them with any of the 40+ filters and save the look as a preset. Works on live streams and VODs.

Built in the open

An app you install from outside the Play Store should earn your trust. Here is how this one tries to.

The source is public

Every line of PurpleTV is on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license. Read it, build it yourself, or open an issue.

Downloads come from GitHub

Every download on this site is a direct link to GitHub Releases, with the file's SHA-256 checksum next to it so you can verify what you got.

Your login goes to Twitch

You sign in on Twitch's own login screen, like in the Play Store app. PurpleTV doesn't touch your login and has no account of its own.

No server of ours in the middle

Emotes come straight from 7TV, BTTV and FFZ, updates from GitHub, and sync uses your own Google Drive. Translation and captions run on your phone.

Installing the ready-to-install Twitch

  1. Uninstall the Play Store Twitch. Android can't install over an app signed by someone else. You'll log in again afterwards.
  2. Download the APK on your phone and open it. Android asks you to allow your browser to install apps. That's normal for anything from outside the Play Store. It's about 140 MB, so Wi-Fi helps.
  3. Open Twitch and go to Settings. PurpleTV is the first row. Turn on whatever you like.

Using the module with LSPosed or LSPatch? The full steps are in the README.

Questions people ask

Is PurpleTV ReVive free?

Yes. It's free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license. No ads, no paywall, no premium tier.

Do I need root?

No. The ready-to-install Twitch works on any phone with Android 8.0 or newer. You only need LSPosed (root) or LSPatch (no root) if you want the module on its own.

Is it safe to install?

The full PurpleTV source is public on GitHub, and every download comes straight from GitHub Releases with a SHA-256 checksum. You sign in on Twitch's own login screen, and PurpleTV has no account or server of its own. As with any app from outside the Play Store, only download it from this site or the GitHub page.

Do I have to sign in again?

Yes, once, after you swap the Play Store Twitch for the ready-to-install one. Passkeys don't work in a re-signed app, so sign in with your password or the Google, Amazon or Apple button.

Can I get banned for using it?

Any modified Twitch client is against Twitch's Terms of Service, so use it at your own risk. PurpleTV ReVive doesn't chat for you, fake views or skip ads, and most of what it changes only shows up on your own screen.

Does it claim channel points automatically?

Yes, and it's on by default. While you watch, it checks for a bonus chest every 30 seconds and claims it with the same request as tapping the chest, even when the chest isn't on screen. You can switch it off in the PurpleTV settings.

Does it block ads?

No, on purpose. Ads and subscriptions are how Twitch and streamers get paid. Ad volume can turn an ad down to 5% of its loudness, but the ad still plays in full and still counts for the streamer.

Which Twitch versions does it work with?

The current release is built for Twitch 31.7.0 (Android 12L or newer) and Twitch 31.1.2 (Android 8.0 or newer), and picks the right setup by itself. Twitch renames its internals in every update, so other versions will most likely break some features.

Is this the original PurpleTV?

No. PurpleTV and bttv-android brought 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes to Twitch on Android first. PurpleTV ReVive picks up their chat features for today's Twitch app.

Is there an iPhone version?

No. PurpleTV ReVive is Android only.

How do I turn it off?

Open Twitch's Settings, tap PurpleTV, and switch off PurpleTV enabled at the top. Restart Twitch and you're back to stock Twitch. Your settings are kept for when you switch it back on.

Chat is waiting.

Your emotes have been plain text long enough.
